Community Service

Foshay’s team knows that community service is more than just writing checks to non-profits. Instead, we have developed meaningful programs that directly change lives.

Sober House

We have developed relationships with a number of Sober House programs, and have hired personnel who have the skills and abilities to be a strong part of our team, while they are work towards getting their personal lives sober and back on track. These individuals are making a strong and serious commitment to maintain and live a healthy lifestyle, and we support them.

Our entire team understands and accommodates the steps of the recovering person. When that individual says they must attend an AA meeting or meet with their sponsor, or any number of steps inherent in the recovery process, our mantra is “Go”. No questions asked, no “please stay another few hours.” Our team will find a way to cover and get the job done.

Judicial Programs

Our Belfast store is less than 2 miles from the Waldo County Maine Correctional Center. Individuals with lower level transgressions and good behavior have been allowed to join work programs. When we have hired, these associates put in a full 45 hours per week. We have several now TIA trained, with advanced TPMS training, others are preparing for ASE tests, and others have earned their Maine State Inspection certification.

Family

We began a relationship with “The Family Restored”, a non-profit that provides a pathway to treatment and counseling for those struggling with addiction. The program works with the entire family unit to strengthen and inspire hope. Foshay’s has donated $13,000 thus far to the group, and helped raise awareness for their work. Family Restored has directly helped us coordinate with new sober houses to help their clientele transition back into the work force with monitored internship positions.

Food Banks

Food Banks and hunger relief programs are widespread in Maine, and Foshay’s makes annual donations between $8-$10,000 to banks in each of our communities. This includes the Augusta Food Bank, Belfast Soup Kitchen, Midcoast Hunger Prevention, and the South Portland Food Cupboard. We include in-kind support by servicing the delivery vehicles operated by these facilities to transport food from donors back to their base of operations.

Maine Blue Collar Scholarship

In 2020, Foshay’s joined forces with a new program called the “Maine Blue Collar Scholarship” program, who defines their mission as “Aiding motivated individuals pursuing a career in the trades.” In the name of our founder, Don Foshay Sr, and his wife Nancy, an annual commitment of $5000 in grant money is dedicated to the support of High School students entering college-level automotive tech education. We divide that grant between three students each year, with increments of $2500/$1500/$1000, and have now awarded 9 students with grant money. These students purchase books and/or tools, and then receive a reimbursement from us. This is to make sure that grant money is very specifically going to aid tech education.

Grassroots

Foshay’s also contribute so an array of other notable programs, including the American Legion, Bristol Lions Club, and Brendan Horton Scholarship Committee. Add in the Damariscotta Lions Club, Heartwood Theatre, South Portland Football Boosters, South Portland Historical Society, South Portland Little League, South Portland Professional Firefighters Association, Portland Boxing, and the Waterville Car Club. We also support several non-commercial, community funded Maine radio stations, including Peaks Island Community Radio, plus WBRU, WERU, WMPG, and WBFY.

We are frequently approached by the community, and do our best to help out where we can. We support, school and church auctions, Rotary Club auctions, and Cub Scouts. As a local family, we enjoy being the “go-to” business that has an interest in supporting the smaller organizations. We primarily work with people representing various 501(c)3 groups and organizations, rather than donating directly to an individual. These external groups know the best way to funnel money to those in need, and we rely on their resources to properly vet and evaluate situations.
